I was freezing but I went up the Halletoren (a.k.a. Belfort), my hands balled against the cold, watching the crowds below. I see couples like penguins huddling to keep warm during this cold snap. It’s a subject I’m reminded of every time I see days becoming crisp and gray - with wind blowing cold as misery through the dreary trees. At these times Bruges gives me a feeling of profound melancholy - a perfect opportunity to relax and reminisce with your loved ones.
[Ok, back to reality…]
Bruges thanks its reputation from scenes in movies (Colin Farrell in Bruges ring a bell?) and from backpackers’ Eurotrips. With world-class chocolate, a wide array of culture, and amazing dining, shopping, and entertainment, Bruges is hard not to love. If you have someone special, Bruges also happens to be a perfect backdrop for a romantic date.
Whether it’s your first time in Bruges or your twentieth, there are enough incredible things to do in Bruges (*obviously). Start by spoiling your date with a fancy restaurant and steal the deal with a dessert.
"Kick off your heels and dance the night away"
End your date on a fun note. If you’re in the mood for dancing, check out 'Coulissen', or order a couple of beers at one of the bars nearby while you figure out ‘“your next move”.
There are never any guarantees when it comes to romance, so you’ll have to wait to see what your date thinks of the evening you’ve had. One thing, however, is for certain: Bruges will have stolen your heart.
What about me? For now my heart is eager to return to Hotel Prinsenhof - and cuddle up by the cosy fireplace. Happy Valentine's Day!
Valentine's Day tip: Throughout Bruges you'll find some excellent chocolate shops and an abundance of cosy restaurants.
